Passero's opens for coffee in The Franklin

The coffee shop has plenty of baked goods, as well as grab-and-go items. The space was briefly the Center City outpost of the ill-starred Town Hall.

Passero's, one of the oldest names in Philly specialty coffee, has opened a shop at the Franklin (834 Chestnut St., 267-318-7074).

The space was briefly the Center City outpost of the ill-starred Town Hall Coffee. Passero's has plenty of baked goods, as well as grab-and-go items.

Passero's, which recently set up a roasting business at The Loom in Port Richmond, dates back to 1991, when Jeff Lincoln and his wife, Linda, opened a stand at Suburban Station, following it up two years later with a tiny shop across from the Academy of Music on Locust Street. The couple later sold the company to Colombia's coffee exporters (aka Juan Valdez) but took it back in 2010.

Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.
