Rival Bros coffee bar opening near Fitler Square

Friday, May 9 is the debut of Rival Bros Coffee's first brick-and-mortar shop, at 24th and Lombard Streets, where Taste Buds Market was.

It's grand to watch the food truckers make that leap to a brick-and-mortar shop, just as HubBub Coffee, Delicias and Honest Tom's have done.

Friday, May 9 is the debut of Rival Bros Coffee's first shop, at 24th and Lombard Streets, where Taste Buds Market was.

Owners and childhood chums Jonathan Adams (a chef) and Damien Pileggi (a La Colombe alum), who started the company in 2011 as a truck, will serve drinks based on their own roasted coffees (Fetco Extractor coffee brewer, Mahlkoenig grinders and a custom matte black La Marzocco GB/5 espresso machine handmade in Florence, Italy), plus baked goods and fresh breads from High Street on Market and whole-leaf loose teas from Philadelphia's House of Tea.

Decor is based on a color palette of black, slate and white, with light oak wood floors, dark leather, tufted banquettes, and sapele wood tabletops made by local craftsman Matt Pappajohn.

Hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

The truck is just available for private events. The guys want to get the cafe up and running and then reevaluate its schedule.
