Roly Cow: Thai-style rolled ice cream shop coming to East Passyunk

Mike Marco, a nursing student whose family has been making ice cream for years, is putting together Roly Cow Creamery at 1647 E. Passyunk Ave., which last was a public adjuster's office, two doors from Cantina Los Caballitos and across from Bing Bing Dim Sum.

Thai-style rolled ice cream, that frozen craze of the moment, will turn up on East Passyunk Avenue perhaps as soon as later this month.

Mike Marco, a nursing student whose family has been making ice cream for years, is putting together Roly Cow Creamery at 1647 E. Passyunk Ave., which last was a public adjuster's office, two doors from Cantina Los Caballitos and across from Bing Bing Dim Sum.

Unlike the other shops specializing in rolled ice cream, Roly Cow will have expanded offerings including espresso and drip coffee and various hot chocolates. He's working with NYC's Joe Coffee on the program, which will include nitro coffee and tea.

Thai ice cream, which was born on the streets of Southeast Asia several years ago, is made by pouring cream and flavorings on a super-cold pan; a worker then scrapes and blends the ingredients. Marco, who will have four pans, says the shop will offer a variety of homemade ice cream bases in addition to the standard sweet cream.
