Snow won't stop The Wild Burrito's opening

It's good strategy to make nice with your new neighbors.

Joe Carpenter knows that a few flakes of snow are expected to fall Saturday, Jan. 23, but he'll open his Wild Burrito shop anyway at 2015 E. Moyamensing Ave. (215-336-9453) in the Pennsport section. He'll start slowly, handing out comp hot chocolate, chorizo chili and vegan chorizo chili while supplies last. Regular hours will start Sunday.

He sells Mission-style burritos, and while he's fully aware that Mexican emigres are plying their trade all over South Philadelphia, The Wild Burrito uses the customizable pick-this/pick-that system popularized by Chipotle. Specialties are ghost pepper brownies and avocado fries; the menu has many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. It's BYOB.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
