Taste: 'Meaty' vegan cuisine and a bar in Phoenixville

Bucks County's Sand Castle Winery is converting its Taste retail store at 236 Bridge St. in Phoenixville into a vegan bar-restaurant called Taste.

Opening will be May 18. The Taste location in Warrington will be converted to a similar format this summer.

A full bar featuring Sand Castle Wine will offer Pennsylvania-only spirits from Pittsburgh's Wigle Whiskey and Boardroom Spirits in Lansdale, as well as beer from Free Will Brewing in Perkasie and Weyerbacher Brewing in Easton. Cocktails, too.

Opening menu is here. Sample items: Huli Huli Rib Slider with root veg shed, spicy spread on a sweet bun ($16); Laos Street Tacos with lao sausage, sweet and spicy pico, sriracha honey and avocado ($16); Blackened Ribeye with crispy potatoes and bourbon ketjap ($19); and Grand Ma Flat made with arugula pesto, fire-roasted tomato and "mutzarella" ($16).

New York City designer Dean Arcuri of Inimitable Designs did the interior.

It will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, till 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
