Tavern on Pine: 'Rescue' bar surfaces in Huntingdon Valley

The new bar is next to the Philmont Station.

The crew from Plush in Glenside - which Jon Taffer of Spike's Bar Rescue renamed "Osteria Calabria" during a flop of a makeover in 2014 - has found a new home in Huntingdon Valley.

Bruno Smoje is partnered here with longtime manager Jason Rapp and William Hartley.

Plush enjoyed a long run on Keswick Avenue before Taffer showed up for a televised remake. (Dramatic element: Things weren't the same at Plush since Smoje and his wife divorced.)

The bar consultant noted the Keswick Theater across the street and installed an Italian theme. From Day One, staff pushed back - referring to the joint simply as "O.C." and ripping out much of the renovations even before the episode was shown.

Then last spring, the building was sold, forcing out the bar.

Tavern on Pine's brick-lined barroom is set up in a large semicircle, with a roomy bar dispensing 12 beers on tap. Chef Dan Tramontina is also a Plush alumnus.
