Temperance House in Newtown to reopen

The restaurant with 11 guest rooms, which traces its lineage to 1772, is due to reopen around Aug. 21, serving lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch.

Closed for two years, the Temperance House in Newtown Borough, Bucks County, is on the way back.

The restaurant with 11 guest rooms, which traces its lineage to 1772, is due to reopen around Aug. 21, serving lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch.

Melissa Corea, a business coach and consultant at One Degree Hospitality, and Kevin and Debbie Tate are now behind the landmark at 5 S. State St. (215-944-8050). Kevin Tate, who worked for an industrial supply company for 20 years, will work alongside Corea. Debbie Tate, who oversees the billing department of a New Jersey law firm, will manage the books.

Arturo Bermudez is a well-traveled chef whose local experience includes the erstwhile Beige & Beige in Huntingdon Valley, Mama Ventura's in Voorhees, Bistro di Marino in Collingswood, and Casa Del Dolce in Ocean City, NJ.

Menu is here. Lunch will feature a burger, crab cake sandwich, salads and made-to-order crepes. Dinner will feature  steaks, house-made pastas, and seafood. Sunday brunch will feature a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar, eggs, pancakes, Bananas Foster French toast, and sweet and savory crepes. After brunch on Sunday, Bermudez will put on a mac and cheese menu.

For the bar, Corea and the Tates will focus on classic cocktails, local craft beers, and wines from California and Europe.
