Garage rolls up its door
South Philly beer bar-slash-fun center.
More than 200 cases of beer - all cans - are chilling, and Friday, July 12 is the debut of Garage, a veritable fun house set up inside a former auto-body shop between Pat's and Geno's at 1231 E. Passyunk Ave., just off Ninth Street and Passyunk Avenue.
It's backed by Jason Evenchik (Time, Bar, Vintage, Growlers), and his Bar partners Josh McCullough, Terrance Leach and Sal D'Amato.
Garage is a drop-in, featuring Skee-Ball, pinball, and billiards. In addition to the canned beers, there are four on tap.
This project has only been in the works for 16 months, and still - alas - has a little way to go.
The partners planned it around the simple but clever idea of setting up a regulation food truck permanently inside the garage and having a rotating assortment of local food truck operators dispense food out of said truck.
This idea has clearly blown the minds of city inspectors, who have not signed off on it.
Until the issue gets resolved, the only food you can get at Garage is a hot dog made on one of those old-world rollers. (On the plus side, Underdogs - the hot dog shop up the street - recently closed, so there is a shortage of franks in the neighborhood.)
You're encouraged to BYOC - bring your own cheesesteak.
