The Mildred - the lovely, chef-driven seasonal American on Eighth Street in Bella Vista - has closed, per a statement Wednesday by a publicist, who described the parting as amicable
Chef Michael Santoro has been otherwise engaged recently as chef at Charlie was a sinner., the new vegan bar in Washington Square West. Michael Dorris is a caterer. Both men met as culinary students at Johnson & Wales.
An insider cited the vagaries of the business - busy one night, empty the next - coupled with the forthcoming slower summer season for the shutdown.
The Mildred opened in September 2012 after a renovation of the former James, which while critically praised simply did not make it, either. James succeeded the modestly successful Michael's.
