Tir na nOg sets up in Cherry Hill

April's opening follows a six-month transition from previous occupant Dubh Linn Square.

Tir na nOg has hit the suburbs.

The Irish pub - with a location at the Phoenix (1600 Arch St.) in Center City, a sibling operation at Con Muphy's (17th and the Parkway) as well as two Tir na nOgs in Manhattan and one in Baltimore's Inner Harbor - has opened in Short Hills Town Center in Cherry Hill (482 E. Evesham Rd., 856-520-8312).

The building is part of an 1866 farmhouse and includes an outdoor patio with fire pit,  three bars, a sun room, a chef's table (by reservation), 25 draft beers (17 of them craft beers), 26 choices of bottles

April's opening follows a six-month transition from previous occupant Dubh Linn Square.

It's open for lunch and dinner daily, plus brunch on the weekend. There's a separate gluten-free dinner menu.

There's a similar look and feel - dark wood, Irish quotations, knickknacks, plenty of private dining space. There also is a stage for musicians. Wednesday is open-mic night.

By the way, the economy for Cherry Hill liquor licenses is healthy.

Because of the township's sterling location along major highways - and because of the relative scarcity of licenses - prices are typically the highest in the region. Nancy Saffos, Cherry Hill township's clerk, said Tir na nOg's owners paid $900,000 for the privilege. That's still nowhere near the record $1.6 million paid in 2007 by the since-closed Swanky Bubbles, but it's nearly double the price paid in 2011 - $500,000 - for the same license, which was purchased for Garden State Park's shopping center.

Chef Matthew Geraghty relocated from Tir na nOg in New York City to Cherry Hill to oversee the kitchen.
