The rooftop space atop the former Bok Technical High School on Mifflin Street near Eighth in South Philadelphia will become a bar for the second consecutive summer.

Thursday, July 7 is the debut of Bok Bar, which will be operated on the building's eighth floor by Stephen Yaeger, a Starr/Baby Blues BBQ veteran.

Lindsey Scannapieco, whose Scout Ltd. owns the building, says she has retained the services of chef Ronan Libunao, a Filipino-American whose menu will draw upon his heritage as well as a working relationship with South Philly Vietnamese bakery Ba Le. Menu includes banh mi, Filipino pork, sesame balls, and satay - everything under $10.

Drink list includes 10 wines (2 roses, 2 bubbles, 3 reds, 3 whites), plus a dozen beers in bottles and cans.

It's outdoors, so operation is weather-dependent. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday; 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; noon to 2 a.m. Saturday; and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday. It's open to those 21 and older, though children are permitted from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Scout, which bought the Bok building in 2014 from the School Reform Commission, is setting it up as an affordable mixed-use facility that offers amenities, space, and services to South Philadelphia.

A permanent indoor restaurant is on its way.

Asked how long in the season Bok Bar will operate, Scannapieco replied: "Until it's too cold."

The 2015 rooftop venture, Le Bok Fin, featured food by Courtney Dow and chef Vince Joseph, who now own Fine Palate in Center City.
