Uptown Beer Garden is back in business

The city has signed off on the beer garden behind Mellon Bank Center at 18th Street and JFK Boulevard.

Permits in hand, Uptown Beer Garden has reopened behind the BNY Mellon Bank building (1735 Market St.).

Uptown - operated by Teddy Sourias, who owns the Center City bars Bru, U-Bahn, and Finn McCool's - was shut down by the city a week ago. It had opened for business only on July 1 - the same day that the city Department of Licenses & Inspections cited the operation, saying it lacked zoning and building permits and a certificate of occupancy.
