Vendy Awards returning June 14

The 2014 competition will take place with an all-female judging panel* on Saturday, June 14 from 2 to 6 p.m.

The Vendy Awards - the tasty battle among more than 30 top city food trucks and carts - are returning to Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown for a fourth year.

This year's competition will take place with an all-female judging panel* on Saturday, June 14 from 2 to 6 p.m.

Nominations are open until May 12, and early bird tickets are on sale for $45.

The judges are food writer turned Federal Donuts partner Felicia D'Ambrosio, Cake Life Bake Shop owner Lily Fischer, writer Danya Henninger, Fair Food founding director Ann Karlen, and blog editor Nicole Woon. The public votes in a People's Choice category.

The Vendy Awards is a fundraiser for The Food Trust, which works to make healthful food available to all. Last year, The King of Falafel won the Vendy Cup while The Cow and the Curd was the People's Choice Winner. Best Dessert accolades went to Lil' Pop Shop.

That week of June, by the way, is shaping up as a great month for food charity events.

Sunday, June 8 is Burger Brawl, the hamburger competition that raises bucks for Philly schools. It will be held at Xfinity Live this year.

Tuesday, June 10 is the Great Chefs Event at Urban Outfitters, at which the Vetri Family brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.
