Signs and mysteries: What's happened to Artisan Boulanger Patissier and Wok Street?

Renovations, oven issues...

Artisan Boulanger Patissier, the James Beard-nominated bakery/cafe on Mifflin Street near 12th in South Philadelphia, has been closed for a few days.

A sign refers to an oven issue.

Amanda Eap, who owns the shop with her husband, Andre Chin, said a part was on order. Complicating the issue, she said, was that the part needed to be shipped from Europe.

ABP started in 2002 at 12th and Morris Streets and three years ago moved to 1218 Mifflin.

Besides French baguettes and pastries, the shop is known for banh mi.

At 1518 Chestnut Street in Rittenhouse, a sign greeted potential customers of Wok Street to announce the closing for "renovations" after only five months.

Wok Street, a fast-casual specialist in Asian-style bowls, is one offshoot of the Philly-based Genji empire.

The chain's hits, so far, have been Hai Street Kitchen (a sushi burrito shop) and Ai Ramen (whose first location opened in June in Liberty Place).

"We will post again here once we know more about our re-open date," reads the letter. "Thanks for your patience."
