Woodstone Tavern opening in South Jersey

The grill in Magnolia, Camden County, replaces Royal Cracovia, a splashy Eastern European-themer, which opened in mid-2013 to basic indifference.

There was a forest of wood and perhaps a quarry's worth of stone to work with, but that only figured partly into the name of the mammoth Woodstone Tavern, opening Thursday, Oct. 20 at 510 S. White Horse Pike in Magnolia, across from Magnolia Garden Village and just a few hops from Flying Fish Brewing.

Among the specialties are stuffed Angus meatloaf, "Flying" fish and chips (yes, the batter made with Flying Fish Red), skewers, burgers, chicken and ribs, and a dish he calls the chicken jawns - fried, boneless chicken strips served plain, or with Buffalo, barbecue, Thai chili, or garlic peppercorn sauces. For old time's sake, he'll serve cheesesteak pierogies.

Murray is a kitchen veteran, counting Borgata, Harrah's, The Gables in Chadds Ford, Georges' in Wayne, and Hawthornes and The Cambridge.

Adam Rosenberg, formerly of The Cambridge and Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse, is general manager.

There's a fully stocked bar in the center, flanked by dining rooms. A coffee bar will open early, and a dessert bar with hand-dipped ice cream, shakes, sundaes, and the like. Downstairs is a private room seating about 100.

Military members (past or present) and first-responders will get a 10-percent discount. As Murray explains: His father was in the Army, a police officer in Miami, and a deputy chief of Mount Laurel Fire Department.

The restaurant also will give a 10-percent discount those presenting a ticket stub from the Cinemark movies.
