Now the two systems will begin the process of seeking regulatory approval, with the goal of completing the deal this spring, the letter said.

Kathleen Kinslow, Aria's president and chief executive, will become a Jefferson executive vice president in charge of community hospitals for Jefferson when the deal is done. Her domain will include Aria's three hospitals and Abington's two hospitals.

She will retain the title of CEO at Aria.

Sandra Gomberg, Aria's chief operating officer, is slated to become president of Aria.
