Jimmy Rollins

will go down in city history, as the shortstop donates his 2008 world championship Phillies uniform to the Atwater Kent Museum, the repository of Philly's history.

The Atwater Kent, on Seventh Street near Market, is closed for renovations and is scheduled to reopen in fall 2010.

During renovations, galleries will be added, including a Philadelphia Sports Gallery, where J-Roll's uniform will be placed.

The museum has the 1982 season uniform of Mike Schmidt, turf, seats, and a turnstile from Veterans Stadium, plus Philadelphia Athletics memorabilia.

Dec. 21's invitation-only presentation ceremony at City Hall is a hot ticket. Sam Katz and Mark Moskowitz will screen an episode of their multimedia-history project, Base Ball: Philadelphia's Game, which Rollins narrated for them before a game last summer at Citizens Bank Park. "He spent an hour with us," Katz noted, "and then went out and hit a homer."
