Manayunk gets a parklet

An attempt to provide respite from macadam.

You may have noticed that Manayunk now has a parklet.

These small platforms - the size of two parking spaces with seats and tables - are being plopped into streets around the city during the warmer months to allow for cafe seating.

The first sprouted in 2011 in West Philadelphia. The Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities and the Streets Department chooses the locations. They must be licensed and insured, so they're typically sponsored by a community organization.

This parklet - spotted last week by reader Marisa Magnatta (of WMMR) - is outside Volo Coffeehouse at 4360 Main St.
