Terryin (358 Snyder Ave., 215-218-2888) comes highly recommended by South Philly's vegan queen, Rachel Klein of Miss Rachel's Pantry. Try the tempura sweet potato sushi.

Aki (1210 Walnut St., 215-985-1838, myakisushi.com) is a fave of Dynise Balcavage, author of The Urban Vegan and Celebrate Vegan. "Just tell them you are veg and they will be very attentive and will be sure not to give you any bonito as a dipping sauce, etc. Also lots of great options. My fave is avocado sun-dried tomato roll. "

Hikaru (607 S. 2nd St., 215-627-7110, hikaruphilly.com) gets the thumbs up from Klein for its "amazing shiitake sushi, along with a really nice veg combo platter."

Makiman Sushi (1326 Spruce St., 215-546-0180, makimanonline.com) got a shout-out from Peace Advocacy Network's George Sampson, who goes to that Center City location, though there are two others in town. "My two absolute favorite rolls are: Tofu-Avocado & Pickle Reverse Maki Roll, and Sweet Potato Tempura Roll. The servers I've had are pretty knowledgeable or will ask the chef if they are unsure about something."
