Police are seeking two gunmen who fired about three dozen rounds on a residential street in the Mill Creek section of West Philadelphia on Thursday morning, killing a 30-year-old man.
The victim, identified by police as Terrell Shields, was getting either into or out of his car on the 4500 block of Merion Avenue about 9:30 a.m. when two men approached and fired, Capt. John Ryan said at a news conference outside Police Headquarters. Shields, who was shot several times, including in his head, was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:59 a.m.
Police found 35 cartridge casings at the scene from handguns of two different calibers. Ryan said police do not know what the motive for the shooting was. Police on Friday said Shields lived on the block where he was shot.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Citizens Crime Commission at 215-546-TIPS (8477).
