'Beer to everybody,' Eagles player promises, if Birds win Super Bowl

Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson made an awfully lofty promise to an ESPN.com reporter at the team's open practice Sunday: "If we win a Super Bowl, I'm giving out beer to everybody."

Maybe Johnson, a Texas native who was drafted by the Eagles in 2013, hasn't yet learned just how much we love beer in Philly. A lot. That's how much.

We think Johnson made his promise in good faith because he really does want Philadelphia's fans to be happy. But he might not know what he got himself into. Philadelphians will hold you to a promise — and hold onto a grudge. To your death. So we'd like to ask Johnson to clarify what he means by "everybody." Would this be everybody in the stadium when and if the Eagles win? Everybody in the entire city of Philadelphia?

If it's the latter, things could get wild. Johnson has heard what happened when the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, right? Fans flipped cars and smashed windows. There were 76 arrests — and the Phillies didn't even buy anyone a drink!

According to some basic math done by ESPN.com, if Johnson could get beer supplied for $3 a pop, it would cost him around $3 million to give one frosty beverage to every adult in Philadelphia.

But he might not have to worry about that cost. In a tweet to Johnson, Bud Light wrote: "Let's make a bet. Win it all and the party is on us. Deal?"

Listen, Philly. We know you're going to have some opinions about Bud Light in the comments section, but beggars can't be choosers. Still, couldn't a local brewery do the city a solid and make a counteroffer?

Who wouldn't like to see the city (finally) get a Super Bowl win and a free round of drinks? Let's hope this isn't just a fantasy draft.
