Letters: MORE RESPONSE TO SGT. LICZBINSKI'S DEATH

AS THE MOTHER and wife of Philadelphia police officers, you can only hold your breath when news breaks about yet another police shooting. On Saturday, an execution-style slaying that left a real hero to die in the streets. This poor man could not even get out of his car before he was gunned down.

I cry so hard every time, thinking there aren't enough tears left, so it might not happen again. Well, I found more tears on Saturday, and they're still flowing. The men and women in blue are the only protection we have against the dirtballs. We need to make sure they know how important they are - not just when events like this happen, but every day.

Can't wait to hear what a good person this shooter was, as you usually do from friends and family.

Well, they need to read about Sgt. Liczbinski, he was that good person. And to all the officers in blue, remember, it's better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 12.

Re Signe's "Enough!" cartoon:

Enough of what? Of guns on the street? Of the killing of police and civilians? Of revolving-door justice? Seventeen priors and still out of jail?

Enough of mayors and police chiefs bashing the National Rifle Association? Enough of the NRA not supporting urban police departments in times like these? Enough of judges handing out soft sentences? Of overcrowded prisons?

Enough already. There is enough blame to be spread around for everyone to share. For the killers of Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, Officer Cassidy, Officer Skerski and Officer Faulkner.

These killers will never see the inside of a coffin, due in no small part to the judicial system that doesn't support the death penalty.

And enough already of idiot gun laws. Enforce the laws that exist.

Law-abiding citizens have the right to carry firearms. The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms, and protect ourself in self-defense.

Enough of the "enoughs."

Let's do what needs to be done. Appoint judges who will give out the tough sentences, elect the politicians who will write the laws to give the courts the power to sign off on death penalty cases.

We the people need to take action, lest we wait to become the next victim.

Enough!

Jeff Williams, East Norriton

What happened to Sgt. Liczbinski was a cowardly and deplorable act and deserves to be punished by death.

But why is this being given so much attention? If it were a little child that gunned down, no statewide manhunt would exist, most likely no reward offered, either. So I ask, why is an adult's life, notably a police officer's, worth more than a child's?

My condolences to the Liczbinski family. There are a lot of people who don't know Officer Liczbinski, but want to show their support.

Let's fill the streets with blue ribbons to show our support and respect for the family and the police, so they'll see there are people who do appreciate them.
