According to a report from SI.com, Boston Celtics assistant general manager Mike Zarren has emerged as a "serious candidate" to succeed Rod Thorn as the 76ers' president.

Zarren, who has worked hand-in-hand with general manager Danny Ainge, joins a group of candidates that includes former Portland assistant general manager and ESPN analyst Tom Penn and former New Orleans general manger Jeff Bower.

Penn has already interviewed twice for the job and was at one time considered the favorite to replace Thorn, who still has one year left on his contract.

A league source with knowledge of the situation, however, indicated that the Sixers' interest in Penn had decreased in recent days.
