Friends’ Central star Ryan Carter commits to North Carolina women’s basketball
Carter, a five-star prospect who's 13th in ESPN's class of 2027 rankings, picked the Tar Heels over Duke, Notre Dame, and others. She's also bringing Team USA experience into her senior season.

Ryan Carter, one of the nation’s top players in the class of 2027, announced her commitment to North Carolina on Monday.
A five-star recruit out of Friends’ Central, Carter helped lead the Phoenix (27-6) to a PAISAA state championship, the first in school history, during her junior season. The 6-foot guard averaged 17.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.8 steals. Carter spent her sophomore year at Archbishop Wood and her freshman and eighth grade years at Penn Charter before finding a fit at Friends’ Central.
Carter also played for the United States’ women’s under-18 national team in the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in June in Irapuato, Mexico. The Wynnewood native averaged 5.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 steals in five games as the U.S. brought home a gold medal. Carter also played AAU basketball for Exodus NYC.

Carter, the No. 13 player in ESPN’s class of 2027 rankings, chose the Tar Heels over more than 30 offers, including Indiana, Duke, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M. Carter told The Inquirer in June that as the daughter of two teachers and an aspiring doctor, her education was just as important to her commitment decision as was the basketball component. And along with being highly regarded academically, North Carolina is coming off a season in which it went 28-8 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
