St. Joseph’s names Sam Brown as head field hockey coach

Sam Brown will become St. Joseph’s next field hockey coach, the school announced Tuesday.
This will be Brown’s first collegiate head coaching position after spending three seasons as an associate head coach at Syracuse.
Brown, a New Zealand native, coached both men’s and women’s field hockey in New Zealand and England before moving to the United States. He was part of James Madison’s staff for four seasons, three as assistant coach before he was promoted to associate head coach in 2022.
In 2023, Brown joined the coaching staff at Syracuse as an associate under Lynn Farquhar, a former St. Joe’s head coach.
During Brown’s three seasons at Syracuse, the team made an NCAA Tournament appearance and reached the quarterfinals in 2023 and 2025.
