St. Joseph’s coach Steve Donahue has received a contract extension through the 2030-31 season, according to 247Sports.

Last season, Donahue was named the Atlantic 10 coach of the year after the Hawks finished third in the conference and 24-12 overall. Following a slow start, St. Joe’s won 13 of its final 16 regular-season games. The Hawks were eliminated by Virginia Commonwealth in the A10 Tournament’s semifinals.

The school could not confirm specific contract terms, a St. Joe’s spokesperson wrote to The Inquirer.

Last year, Donahue was hired by St. Joe’s as an assistant following his dismissal as Penn’s head coach after nine seasons. However, two months before the 2025-26 season, former Hawks head coach Billy Lange departed for a role with the New York Knicks. Donahue was promoted to head coach.

Donahue was elevated by former St. Joe’s athletic director Jill Bodensteiner, who left the school in February to become the commissioner of the Horizon League. Former La Salle Athletic Director Ash Puri was announced as the school’s new AD in May.

“[Puri is] an outside-the-box guy, which, in this landscape of college athletics, I think you need guys like him,” Donahue told The Inquirer on Monday. “He really cares. He cares deeply about the coaches, the student-athletes, and the university he represents.”
