Man shot to death on Kelly Drive near boathouses
A 30-year-old man was found just before 3 a.m. Saturday lying next to a car in a parking lot along Boathouse Row.
A homicide investigation is underway after a police officer on patrol early Saturday found a man who had been shot to death in a parking lot near two university boathouses, according to police.
The officer discovered a 30-year-old man who had been shot multiple times at 2:38 a.m. in the 2200 block of Kelly Drive in a public parking lot between Saint Joseph’s Gillin Boathouse and Temple University’s East Park Canoe House, according to police.
The man was found lying next to an automobile with its hood up and hazard lights flashing, NBC10 reported, citing police sources. The vehicle had temporary Delaware tags and had been reported stolen.
Police have not released the identity of the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No bullet casing were found, though the vehicle appeared to have bullet holes. No suspect has been arrested or identified.
The shooting happened in roughly the same spot where a 31-year-old man was found dead last July with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Kelly Drive is a popular route for runners, walkers and rollerbladers using the Schuylkill River Trail, who told The Inquirer at the time that they were not going to give up their routines despite the threat of gun violence.
