Eagles fans have been salivating since the ‘90s for a return to the team’s famous kelly green-colored jerseys, and after many teases and a promise, the gear is here.

In July, the Philadelphia Eagles made official kelly green jerseys and merchandise available for fans to purchase at all three Eagles Pro Shop locations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Predictably, hundreds of people lined up outside of Lincoln Financial Field for the 9 a.m. release, some even waiting since 3 a.m.

Then, this week, seasoned local sports apparel brand Mitchell & Ness released a limited-edition certified replica of Princess Diana’s kelly green Eagles letterman jacket — the famous one she was photographed in for a 1994 cover of People magazine. The replicas were starting at $400, that’s how bad people want their nostalgic Eagles gear.

The kelly green jersey worn from 1935 through 1995 is associated with some of the most legendary Eagles player, like the NFL’s second all-time sack leader, Reggie White, and one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks of all time, Randall Cunningham. That green hue, an almost intense pure green, is much more than just a color — it signifies a dynasty.

The Eagles wore their kelly greens for the first time in more than a decade in October against the Miami Dolphins. They’ll get a second chance to don the colors on Nov. 26 when the Birds take on the Buffalo Bills.

There are only a few places to get the official merchandise in prep for game day, but The Inquirer has also got you covered on some local shops selling creative kelly green apparel as well.
