NFL draft: Eagles add a QB, more on Day 3; Philly fans impress Greenard; Steelers may be in trouble over Lemon phone call
The Eagles took North Dakota State quarterback Cole Payton in the fifth round, and then traded back in the sixth round before picking an offensive lineman.

The third and final day of the 2026 NFL Draft is underway on ESPN, ABC, and the NFL Network.
The Eagles used the first of their three Day 3 picks on a quarterback, Cole Payton of North Dakota State.
The Eagles traded back with the Rams in the sixth round and took Georgia guard Micah Morris picked with pick No. 207. They also hold picks 244, 251, and 252, all in the seventh round.
Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, acquired in a trade with the Vikings, was introduced Saturday in South Philly after attending the Sixers game the night before. He was impressed by the crowd.
The Eagles were busy on Friday, trading for Greenard and drafting two offensive players – tight end Eli Stowers and offensive lineman Markel Bell.
The Birds early draft haul was promising, but the Greenard deal outshined the picks, according to Jeff McLane. Columnist Marcus Hayes wrote it's just the latest example of "Howie SZN".

Eagles 2026 NFL draft pick tracker
On Friday, the Eagles used their second-round pick on Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers and a third-round pick to take Miami offensive lineman Markel Bell.
The Birds traded their other third-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings as part of a deal to acquire linebacker Jonathan Greenard.
The Eagles enterered the third and final day of the draft with three picks, and used the first on a quarterback. Here's a look at all their picks ...
New Mexico edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby close draft for the Eagles
The Eagles' eight-player 2026 draft class wrapped up with New Mexico edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby, who the team drafted at pick No. 252.
James-Newby is on the smaller side for an edge rusher at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds, but had a productive final college season. He was named first-team All-Mountain West after making 52 tackles (15 for loss, 9 total sacks) to go with five pass breakups and two forced fumbles.
The Eagles needed edge-rushing help this weekend. They traded for top-end talent in Jonathan Greenard and finished their draft class with a developmental prospect in James-Newby.
Eagles take Nigerian defensive tackle prospect Uar Bernard
The penultimate Eagles pick is an interesting one.
The Eagles, using one of the two picks they acquired from the Rams when they traded down in the sixth round, selected Nigerian defensive tackle prospect Uar Bernard at pick No. 251, a prospect who has never played organized football.
Bernard, an International Pathway Program player, is 6-foot-4, 306 pounds, and has just 6% body fat.
Eagles select Texas Tech safety Cole Wisniewski
The Eagles used the 244th pick to select Texas Tech safety Cole Wisniewski.
Wisniewski, a 6-foot-3, 219-pound senior, was honorable mention All-Big 12. He had 78 tackles, including one sack.
Safety was a position the Eagles entered the weekend needed to add some depth at. They were even in the running to draft one earlier.
Beyond the grades: Breaking down the Birds' Day 3 picks
Grades have become every NFL draft analyst’s favorite means of rating a selection, but it’s what goes into the grade that really counts. The Inquirer’s Eagles reporters Jeff Neiburg, Olivia Reiner, Ryan Novozinsky, and Devin Jackson will evaluate all of the team’s 2026 NFL draft picks based on four separate components, leading with Day 1 selection Makai Lemon and continuing with Friday night’s Day 2 choices and the third day of selections below.
Cole Payton, QB, North Dakota State (6-foot-3, 232 pounds)
Pick: 5th Round, No. 178 overall
Eagles take Georgia offensive lineman in sixth round
The Eagles have another Georgia Bulldog in the building, just not on the defense.
The Eagles selected Georgia guard Micah Morris with the 207th pick in the draft after trading down 10 spots with the Los Angeles Rams.
Morris, who is 6-foot-5 and 334 pounds, started all 14 games this year at left guard after playing some right guard with the Bulldogs in 2024.

Eagles trade back in sixth round
The Eagles traded out of pick No. 197 with the Rams and picked up two seventh-round picks. They swapped sixth-round picks with the Rams, adding their pick at No. 207. They also added consecutive picks in the seventh-round: Nos. 251 and 252. They now have three seventh-round picks.
What the Eagles are getting in new QB Cole Payton
Fifth round pick Cole Payton was one of the quarterbacks that Devin Jackson previewed ahead of the draft. Now he's an Eagle. Here's what Devin thinks of the new QB ...
Yes, Payton played for North Dakota State, which may still be a sore spot for some Eagles fans who have a negative association with Carson Wentz’s alma mater. Payton, a one-year starter for the Bison, has a nice deep-ball touch on vertical throws, has a strong arm to make throws at all three levels of a defense, and is an extremely athletic player who excelled so much as a runner that the staff used him in run-only packages early in his career.
The lack of experience at the position and facing FCS-level competition are big reasons he is projected to be a Day 3 pick. Like Green, Payton tries to create plays outside the pocket, which can then turn into negative plays like turnovers and sacks. His pocket feel, while it has improved, still needs work, and that will only happen with more reps.

Eagles take NDSU quarterback Cole Payton in fifth round
The Eagles used their fifth-round pick to take a quarterback, selecting North Dakota State's Cole Payton with the 178th pick in the draft.
Payton, a second-team FCS All-American, threw for 2,719 yards and completed 72% of his passes last season. He had 16 touchdowns against four interceptions.
The lefty from Omaha, Neb., is a dual-threat player who ran a 4.56 40-yard dash at the combine and rushed for 777 yards on 136 carries last season.
Eli Stowers describes his emotional draft reaction
The Eagles drafted tight end Eli Stowers in the second round Friday night, and the Vanderbilt product got emotional when he saw his name on the screen.
On Saturday, he met with the Philly media and explained the emotions came from imagining what his younger self would have thought.
"As soon as I was born, I been around this game," Stowers said. "I have so much love for this game; I don't know anything else. And so when I got the call and I saw my name on the screen, I just thought back to when I was a kid watching the draft every year, just dreaming that I could be there some day. And then when I looked up and saw my name, and thought about my younger self just freaking out and it made me emotional. Because I love this game, and for me to be able to continue to do this and achieve my dream, it's just such a blessing."

Penn State RB Nick Singleton off the board shortly before Eagles pick
One of the Eagles’ running back options in the NFL draft finally came off the board 13 picks before their next selection in the fifth round.
Nick Singleton, a four-year player at Penn State, was selected 165th overall by the Tennessee Titans. The Gov. Mifflin graduate suffered a foot injury during the Senior Bowl in January, which has kept him from doing athletic testing during this draft cycle.
Singleton finished as Penn State’s all-time career leader in rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns. He had a down year in 2025 with 549 rushing yards, but had 13 rushing touchdowns. He's a speedy back that also thrives as a receiver out of the backfield.
What the picks in the Makai Lemon trade turned into for Dallas
The Eagles parted ways with a relatively hefty package in order to trade up three spots to select Makai Lemon on Thursday night.
In addition to the 23rd pick, they also sent the Dallas Cowboys two fourth-round picks: No. 114 and No. 137.
Dallas used those both of those picks to continue adding defensive talent. The Cowboys picked Florida cornerback Devin Moore at No. 114 and then selected Alabama edge rusher LT Overton 23 picks later.
Greenard shares his respect for Eagles history
As the newest Eagles edge rusher, Greenard expressed an understanding that he isn’t just representing the current group. He emphasized his admiration for the players of the past, including Brandon Graham, Chris Long, Derek Barnett, and Josh Sweat, who have set the standard for the newcomers.
“I respect the hell out of the guys that have come before me, and all I can do is continue to just carry that light and make sure the things they’ve done in the past doesn’t go in vain,” Greenard said. “So I love everything about it. I love the historic franchise. I’m wanting to be a part of that.
“I want to be a part of having some hardware on my finger.”

Still rehabbing, Greenard thinks he could play today
Football has been on the back burner for the last several months as new Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard recovered from season-ending left shoulder surgery in December. The injury limited him to just 12 games in 2025. Greenard said he is still rehabbing, but he is making progress.
“They don’t want me to say it, but if we had to play, I could play,” Greenard said. “But ultimately, man, I feel good. I’m in a good spot, and coming here with the best trainers as well, and the best docs here, stuff like that, I know I’m in good hands.”
As he gets back on football field in 2026, Greenard will look to return to the Pro Bowl form he achieved in 2024, his first season with the Vikings. That year, he registered 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, three pass breakups, and 18 tackles for a loss.

Will the Steelers get in trouble for the Makai Lemon phone call?
By now you've heard that Makai Lemon was on the phone with the Pittsburgh Steelers when the Eagles were trying to reach him to make the USC wide receiver their first-round pick.
But the Steelers may have been violating a league rule.
They weren't on the clock until pick No. 21, and were apparently unaware the Eagles jumped in front of them and traded with Dallas for pick No. 20.
Downingtown West grad selected by Dallas
Drew Shelton, a two-year starter at Penn State and a Downingtown West graduate, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys 112th overall in the fourth round of the NFL draft.
Shelton, who succeeded Jets offensive linemen Olu Fashanu at left tackle beginning in the 2024 season, becomes the second consecutive Downingtown West graduate to get drafted. Will Howard was selected by the Steelers in the sixth round of last year’s draft.
Leading up to the draft, Shelton was training in Dallas with Duke Manyweather, the offensive line guru and the cofounder of OL Masterminds with Lane Johnson.
Howie Roseman has found some gems on Day 3
The Eagles only have three remaining picks on Saturday — for now — and they're not on the lock until pick No. 178, but this day has historically brought them some important players.
To be sure, some not-so-good players, too. And only having three picks makes it a little less statistically likely they have a high hit rate on the Day 3 class in 2026.
But in case you need some reminding, here are some of Howie Roseman's best Day 3 picks:

Greenard got his first taste of Philly at Sixers game: 'It's different up here'
New Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard has never played at Lincoln Financial Field, but he got a taste of Philadelphia fans during Friday night's Sixers playoff game at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
"They lost, but that was a crazy environment," Greenard said. "I was just at the Hawks game back home in Georgia. Looking at that and comparing the two, I was just like, man, this environment was way, way, way better. No disrespect to them. Ultimately, man, it's different up here. They take pride in it. They take pride in everything they do. It's a blue collar city. When you work your tail off, everything is going to be rewarded back to you. They're just passionate, and I love that.
"Ultimately, they want one thing. And why not? We want the same thing. I carry that chip on my shoulder. I respect the hell out of this city, respect the hell out of this [organization], and I just definitely understand what putting this jersey on, putting this helmet on, actually means to this city. And I'm going to take pride in that."
How Jonathan Greenard sees himself fitting on Eagles defense
The Eagles introduced their new edge rusher, Jonathan Greenard, Saturday morning, just over 12 hours after acquiring him from the Vikings for a pair of third round picks.
So what does he think of the defense already in place? And how does he see himself fitting alongside the team's current front seven?
"If you look at it across the board, they've got some dogs," Greenard said of the Eagles current defensive front. "Already, you start interior-wise, [Moro] Ojomo and obviously J.C. [Jalen Carter] and J.D. [Jordan Davis], they're going to do their things. On the edge guys, it's such a young presence and guys who are just relentless. I feel like that's where I can add to it, just like a vet presence. You've got Nolan [Smith] already doing his thing and elevating his game, and Jalyx [Hunt] as well. ...

With only three picks, what's the Eagles plan for Day 3?
On Day 3 of the draft, Howie Roseman has said in the past he is looking for players with unique traits who can develop into starters.
But as it currently stands, the Eagles are set to take fewer swings at identifying those future starters on the draft’s final day. Roseman has just three picks at his disposal — Round 5, No. 178, Round 6, No. 197, and Round 7, No. 244. He traded 2026 picks away to move up for Makai Lemon and to acquire Jonathan Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings and Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers.
Roseman considers Greenard and Wicks to be exploits of this draft, even though they are veterans. Still, Roseman expressed a sense of longing for his since-departed Day 3 picks.
Day 3 draft options for the Eagles
Here are a few players who have been connected to the Eagles during the pre-draft process and are still available:
OT Jude Bowry, Boston College
Bowry, the 6-foot-5, 314-pounder, was a two-year starter at left tackle at Boston College. He is heralded for his athleticism at the position, as evidenced by his 5.08 40-yard dash (80th percentile) and his 34.5-inch vertical jump (96th percentile). Bowry could be better suited for guard at the next level given his size, although he did not play the position in college.

Jonathan Greenard, edge rusher
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman sat at the podium Friday night after what he called an “eventful” Day 2 of the 2026 NFL draft.
