Struggling Flyers recall Alex Bump, Cole Knuble from Lehigh Valley

Bump, who started the year with the Flyers, had scored seven goals in five games for the Phantoms. Knuble is poised to make his NHL debut for the same team his dad, Mike, played five seasons for.

The youth movement is coming.

Heading into a matchup with a Colorado Avalanche team that ranks second in the NHL in goals per game (4.50), the Flyers have recalled forwards Alex Bump and Cole Knuble from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League. Defenseman Hunter McDonald also was called up on Sunday.

Bump and Knuble are possibilities to play, with Sean Couturier and Tyson Foerster game-time decisions against the Avalanche. Both veterans participated in the team’s optional morning skate on Monday.

Owen Tippett (upper-body injury), Travis Konecny (lower-body injury), Cam York (upper-body injury), and Rasmus Ristolainen (hand) are out. The latter three are on injured reserve.

If Knuble, who had an impressive preseason, gets into the lineup, it would mark his NHL debut. The 22-year-old, who is the son of former Flyer Mike Knuble, had one goal and four points in six games with the Phantoms.

Bump made the opening night roster and played in three games before being sent down on Oct. 7 after the team signed Michael Bunting. He went on a tear, potting seven goals and eight points in five games, including the overtime winner on Saturday against Springfield.

Breakaways

Goalie Joseph Woll (0-3-2, .916 save percentage) will get the start against Colorado.
