Unicorn wars: AirBnB, WeWork up; Cloudera, Pinterest down
Reports Vanguard US Growth
Vanguard Group, the largest mutual fund company, sheds light on IPO prospects for some of the most popular private software companies that may become billion-dollar publicly-traded companies -- the so-called "unicorns" -- in recent SEC filings, says Daniel P. Wiener, publisher of the Independent Adviser for Vanguard Investors newsletter, which has watched the Malvern-based investor for 25 years.
According to Wiener, a review of Vanguard's U.S. Growth fund shows that the company in March:
-- Marked up holdings of Airbnb, the overnight room-rental firm, by 6.8%, from last year's valuations
-- Marked down Cloudera (which builds Apache Hadoop applications for big-data software users) by 9.9%
-- Marked down Pinterest, the social-media images-sharing tool by10.4%
-- Marked up WeWork, the office-sharing company, 21.1%
-- Reported no change at Uber, the rideshare company, after marketing Uber up 23% in the last quarter of 2015
