MilkBoy planning Center City venue
The Main Line coffeehouse/music venue will go before a neighborhood association Tuesday. Here's what they're planning.
MilkBoy, the coffeehouse/music venue that started in Ardmore and expanded to Bryn Mawr, will go before a committee of the Washington Square West Civic Association on Tuesday for plans at the southeast corner of 11th and Chestnut Streets.
MilkBoy's Jamie Lokoff told me that this Center City venue would be more advanced than the Main Line ventures, as it will fill two levels: a coffee shop and bar on the first floor, and a performance stage on the second floor that will attract independent artists. Capacity will be about 100 fans, "comfortably," Lokoff said.
Lokoff said Center City itself is underserved for music fans. "You have World Cafe Live [in University City] and places like the Khyber [in Old City] and Johnny Brenda's [in Northern Liberties]," he said. "This will put us smack in the middle."
The menu also will be more advanced, as they and developers U3 Ventures want to offer burgers and vegan selections.
They'd like to be open by spring.
Update: The venue received its zoning approval 1/20/10. They're hoping to open by June and have the summer as a tune-up for fall.
