Mexican grub in Chesco; Starr news; Ooka bagging another tuna.
Philly fans of genuine Mexican grub used to trek out to the New Garden Shopping Center in Kennett Square to sit among farm workers at Taqueria Moroleon. Well, Taqueria Moroleon has relocated to a larger space in Avondale -- even farther from the city, yes, but there's a liquor license now. See site.
Stephen Starr has designated "Ranstead Room" as the name of the backroom bar in his forthcoming El Rey (2013 Chestnut St.). Opening is up for April 21.
Ooka, the sushi-ists north of the city, is bringing in another 600-pound bluefin tuna from the Mediterranean on Thursday. It will be brought to Komé restaurant in the Saucon Valley by noon for processing by executive chef Shuji Hiyakawa. Ooka restaurants in Montgomeryville, Doylestown, and Willow Grove, will get cuts this weekend. Ooka did this in late January, running through 400 pounds in three days.
HeadHouse, the tavern replacing Zot at 122 Lombard St., is looking at an April 23 opening. (Site is here.)
The Wishing Well, a South Philly bar whose owners plan to donate to charity a cut of proceeds from sales of well shots, opens today at Ninth and Catharine Streets. (Site is here.)
Hunan in Ardmore, felled by fire before Halloween last year, is looking to reopen in late April, says owner Betty Foo. The Lancaster Avenue Chinese restaurant had been there for 34 years and was Susanna Foo's first stop in the business.
