Philly Mag furloughs; a shakeup at Boston Mag

The Beantown glossy has installed former Philly Mag senior editor Andrew Putz as its editor and laid off six staffers.

Philly's Metrocorp, publisher of Philly Mag and Boston Mag, is shaking things up.

Philly Mag has laid off an advertising person and last week announced a one-week unpaid furlough for employees, a rep confirms.

Also, Boston Mag has named former Philly Mag senior editor Andrew Putz as its editor, effective July 22.

Boston mag yesterday laid off six people, including editor James Burnett. The remaining workers also will get a one-week unpaid furlough. The mag did not release the size of the remaining staff.

Putz, 35, has edited Minnesota Monthly since March 2007. One of his last pieces for Philly Mag was a profile of U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah.

Philly Mag editor Larry Platt had been shuttling between Philly and Boston to help Boston Mag. (By train. He hates to fly.) The Philly operation itself laid off several staffers last November after it cut the frequency of its Philadelphia Home magazine.
