South Helm sets its opening

The chefs say they will be be ready to go in mid-May, but now want to hold off because they will be taking a breather Memorial Day weekend.

June 3 is the target opening date of South Helm, the Pennsport branch of Michael Griffiths and Kevin D'Edigio's South Kensington BYOB hit, Helm.

The chefs say they will be be ready to go in mid-May, but now want to hold off because they will be taking a breather Memorial Day weekend.

This location at Front and Morris Streets - which last was 1st Ward sandwiches and previously Langostini - will be a touch smaller than Helm, on Fifth Street just above Thompson. That location, which opened in March 2015, is a Craig LaBan three-beller.

At South Helm, they'll offer a similar style - local ingredients cooked with clever, modern approaches - but the portioning will be on smaller plates.

Initial hours will be Tuesday to Saturday for dinner only.
