Union Taco to open with free food

It's Wednesday, Oct. 23 from noon to 2 p.m. at 712 W. Girard Ave.

Union Taco - the taqueria from Nick Farina of Bryn Mawr's Verdad - opens Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 712 W. Girard Ave. (next to the original Tiffin) with a food giveaway from noon to 2 p.m.

Attendees get two tacos on the house.

Menu includes a half dozen 6-inch, made-on-premises soft tacos; tortas (pressed sandwiches); Mexican flatbread pizzas; and churros.

Opening torta and taco options include Pork Carnitas with Pomegranate, Spinach and Barbeque Sauce; Sliced Kobe Beef with Figs and Housemade Tres Queso; Flash Fried Mahi-Mahi with Soy Ginger, Carrot Slaw and Cabbage; Grilled Seasonal Vegetables with Huitlacoche; Pork Cheeks with Pickled Tomatillo Salsa and Pork Jus; and Pulled Chicken with Chile Relish.

Mexican flatbreads include Confit Chicken with Goat Cheese and Sundried Tomatoes; Duck with Fig and Manchego; Rabbit with Chanterelles and Queso Fresco; and Jersey Tomato with Mahon and Pickled Jalapeños.

Pricing is $6 for two tacos, $7 for tortas, $8 to $12 for flatbread pizzas and $3 per bag of churros, which are served with spicy Mexican chocolate dipping sauce.

Mexican sodas, as well as ingredients for specialty margaritas for guests who bring their own tequila, are available.

Union Taco will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, and will stay open late nights on weekends.
