Gold Cup final at Lincoln Financial Field is sold out

Updated Wednesday night, for an obvious reason.

CONCACAF announced Wednesday afternoon that Sunday's Gold Cup final at Lincoln Financial Field (7:30 p.m, Fox Sports 1 and Univision) is sold out.

The organization expects a crowd in excess of 66,000 to be in attendance. Capacity is 69,176 for Eagles games, but because of media arrangements and VIP seating it's not known exactly how many tickets were made available to the public.

Parking lots will open at 2:30 p.m., and HeadHouse Plaza will open at 3:30 p.m. with a pregame fan zone. Gates will officially open at 6:00.

In addition, Univision's "Republica Deportiva" studio show will broadcast a special edition live from the stadium at 3 p.m., though I don't know exactly where the set will be.

Tickets remain available for Saturday's third place game at PPL Park (4:00 p.m., Fox Sports 2 and Univision), though CONCACAF did not say how many. If either the United States or Mexico loses in Wednesday's semifinals, those tickets will disappear fast. The U.S. plays Jamaica at 6 p.m. (Fox Sports 1 and UniMás), and Mexico plays Panama at 9 (Fox Sports 2 and UniMás) in a doubleheader at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

(Never mind.)

The current attendance record for soccer in Philadelphia is 68,396. It was set at the Manchester United-Barcelona friendly that christened the Linc in 2003.

If the U.S. beats Jamaica, Sunday's final will set a new record for national team attendance in city history. The current record is 55,407, set at the 2010 World Cup sendoff game against Turkey. The Gold Cup final would be the men's national team's seventh game in the city proper - four at the Linc and one each at Temple Stadium, Veterans Stadium and Franklin Field.
(For those wondering, the record women's crowd is 31,553 for the 2003 World Cup game against Nigeria. And no, I haven't heard anything about whether Philadelphia will be added to the victory tour that begins in Pittsburgh on August 16.)
Here is the list of all U.S. men's and women's national team games played in Philadelphia to date. Attendance figures are in parentheses:

September 25, 1968: U.S. men 0, Israel 4 at Temple Stadium (7,161)1
August 25, 1989: U.S. men 1, Dnepr (Soviet Union) 0 at Franklin Field (43,356)2
August 2, 1991: U.S. men 2, Sheffield Wednesday 0 at Veterans Stadium (44,261)

September 25, 2003: U.S. women 5, Nigeria 0 at Lincoln Financial Field (31,553)3
November 6, 2004: U.S. women 1, Demark 3 at Lincoln Financial Field (14,812)
September 13, 2008: U.S. women 2, Ireland 0 at Lincoln Financial Field (13,176)

July 18, 2009: U.S. men 2, Panama 1 at Lincoln Financial Field (31,087)4

August 10, 2011: U.S. men 1, Mexico 1 at Lincoln Financial field (30,138)

1 - Thanks to famous local soccer historian (and former Inquirer copy editor) Roger Allaway for providing the attendance.
2 - Yes, that's the same Ukrainian club which reached the UEFA Europa League final this past season.

3 - FIFA Women's World Cup group stage
4 - CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal

(As I said above: Never mind.)
