Union’s Cavan Sullivan fined by Major League Soccer’s Disciplinary Committee
Sullivan was fined “for violating the league’s policy regarding simulation/embellishment" on a play in the 84th minute of Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Charlotte.

Some people think diving is one of the biggest scourges in soccer. Others say that a well-timed fall is a sign of street smarts.
Whatever your opinion, know that MLS’s disciplinary committee fined the Union’s Cavan Sullivan on Thursday “for violating the league’s policy regarding simulation/embellishment” on a play in the 84th minute of last Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Charlotte.
The amount of the fine was not published, as is always the case with these rulings.
There wasn’t much criticism among fans when the news was announced. Some even saw it as a compliment to Sullivan’s growth.
Sullivan also took a minor hit to an ankle in that game, interim Union manager Ryan Richter revealed on Thursday. But the young playmaker is expected to be fine for Saturday’s game against the New England Revolution (7:30 p.m., Apple TV), where the Union (13-10-7, 46 points) would clinch a playoff berth with a win.
They could also clinch with a tie against third-place New England (16-10-4, 52 points) and other results leaguewide going their way.
