The former president of a Montgomery County elementary-school parent teacher organization has been charged with stealing more than $19,000 from the group's bank account.

Kimesha Chong-Wing used an ATM card for the Rydal Elementary School PTO to purchase an international plane ticket, eyeglasses, groceries, and other items, officials said. Chong-Wing, 40, of Abington, became president in September, officials said. She had an ATM card for the organization to use in overseeing school events, teachers' gifts, and student activities.

But Chong-Wing used the card to make 42 unauthorized cash withdrawals from the account totaling more than $11,000, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said Thursday. While on a trip to Florida in December, officials said, she used the card for more than $2,000 in additional transactions.

Officials said Chong-Wing also used the PTO bank account to purchase an international airline ticket and travel insurance for a relative that cost $900, and a pair of $350 glasses for herself. She has since resigned from the PTO. Chong-Wing was arraigned Thursday on charges of theft and receiving stolen property, and was released on $25,000 bail. -Laura McCrystal
