Eats Beat: 5/17/12

Writing about booze is a trendy, growing field. But it’s not just a matter of draining your glass and letting the liquor do the typing. Learn the craft from experts at “The Intoxicating Allure of Drinks Writing,” 3:30-4:50 p.m. May 24 at the Mandell Lobby on the Drexel University campus (33rd and Chestnut, events.drexel.edu). Panelists include: David Wondrich, Esquire’s longtime drinks correspondent; Lew Bryson, blogger and managing editor of Whisky Advocate; Amy Zavatto, a contributing editor to Imbibe magazine; and Jason Wilson, drinks columnist for the Washington Post and dining columnist for the Daily News. Music, documentary-style video, storytelling, humor and, of course, cooking and eating are on the menu for Asian Arts Initiative’s “The Cooking Show,” an interactive culinary and storytelling experience to raise awareness of Type 2 diabetes. Performances through Saturday at Asian Arts Initiative’s Salon space (1223 Vine St.). $20 admission includes a meal. 215-557-0455 or asianartsinitiative.org.
