DA: USPS worker stole $29K in money orders

A Philadelphia postal worker was in court today to face accusations that she stole nearly $29,000 in fraudulently voided money orders.

Felicia Townsend, 36, has worked at several USPS locations since 1996, including the John Wanamaker Station on Broad Street and the Land Title Station on Market Street.

According to the District Attorney's Office, investigators learned in January that a number of money orders had been cashed but had never been recorded as sold or issued. The USPS Office of the Inspector General determined the money orders had been sold to customers but subsequently had been voided.

During the probe, the investigators allegedly found surveillance video of Townsend making the transactions and then voiding the orders.

Townsend, who was arrested Sept. 30, allegedly pocketed $28,642.31 in the scheme, D.A. Seth Williams said in a statement.
