Police seek help in 2 killings
Two men are sought in unrelated shootings, one in W. Phila., the other in the Northeast.
Police are asking the public's help in finding two men wanted in unrelated slayings.
In one case, police hope images captured by a surveillance camera will help identify the gunman who fatally shot Gregory Jackson at the Variety Store at 57th and Arch Streets in West Philadelphia on Jan. 10.
Jackson, 26, who lived near the store and was a frequent customer, got into a confrontation with a man about 8:30 p.m. and was shot, police said.
The gunman, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap, is seen on the surveillance tape for several minutes outside the store, arguing with the victim and then taking off. Police released an edited version of the video that censored the actual shooting, hoping that the man seen in the video could be identified.
"We would like the public's help in identifying the individual in the video," said Chief of Detectives Keith Sadler. "We don't know what they were arguing about, but they were arguing for several minutes."
During the argument, many people went in and out of the store. Sadler said the video shows the shooting happened "literally seconds" after a group of young people left the store.
"This homicide was a cowardly murder," Sadler said, adding that the victim was unarmed.
In the other case, police have identified two suspects and hope the public can help find the one who remains at large.
At 8:18 p.m. Wednesday, Ralph Hibner, 50, of the 900 block of Riverside Drive in the Far Northeast, was shot in the abdomen in a home invasion. He was pronounced dead at Frankford Hospital-Torresdale Campus six hours later.
Jameel Randall, 16, of the 12000 block of Sweetbriar Road, was apprehended in the 4200 block of North Front Street and charged with murder the day after the slaying. Police are still searching for Omar Moses, 18, of the 1400 block of Riverside Drive.
Anyone with information on either case is being asked to call homicide detectives at 215-686-3334.
