Red Sox draft Neumann-Goretti star Ockimey
'Ock,' who helped lead the Saints to a Catholic League championship, was taken in the fifth round of the baseball draft.

SS. NEUMANN-GORETTI first baseman Josh Ockimey was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the fifth round (164th overall) of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft yesterday.
In May, Ockimey, a 6-2, 215-pound lefty collegiately committed to Indiana, helped the Saints (23-4) win their third Catholic League championship in four seasons. On Monday at 4 p.m., he will lead N-G against District 4 top seed Loyalsock Township in the PIAA Class AA semifinals at Northern York High in Dillsburg.
A two-time Daily News All-City first-teamer (with a third nod forthcoming), Ockimey, a Southwest Philadelphia resident (78th Street and Lindbergh Boulevard), took home the CL Blue Division MVP as selected by league coaches this season.
A 4-year starter, Ockimey, whom teammates call "Ock," has a .410 career batting average for the Saints, with 98 RBI and 13 home runs. This season, Ockimey is 35-for-71 (.493) with 32 RBI, 12 doubles and four homers.
Also drafted yesterday was former Archbishop Wood (2010) product Brian O'Grady, currently a first baseman at Rutgers who was selected by Cincinnati in the eighth round.
