GA's Moore to play basketball at Penn State

Football? What's that?
All right, so Julian Moore is not oblivious when it comes to one of the three major sports, but when it came time to pick a college for basketball he was not going to let Penn State's current grid mess affect his decision.
Moore, a 6-9, 215-pound rising senior at Germantown Academy, Friday night announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions.
As football did not come into play, neither did the recent decision of Imhotep Charter guard Brandon Austin, another rising senior, to scratch his hoops commitment to PSU.
"Brandon made the decision because he felt it was best for him and his family," Moore said. "I'm making the decision that's best for ME and MY family."
Moore made his official visit in mid-June. He also traveled to PSU for a basketball camp.
"I still tried to keep an open mind as the recruiting process continued, but Penn State left a lasting impression," Moore said. "It grew on me more and more. I did want to get this finished during the summer so I could put my focus on winning an Inter-Ac championship.
"I loved the school itself along with the coaching staff, the facilities, the history of the program . . . Coach Fenerty (Jim, of GA) gave me great guidance through all of this, as did my parents (Bobbie, Lester). We really talked things through."
Moore, who lives in Chestnut Hill and plans to major in civil or mechanical engineering, was pursued heavily by pretty much every school in the Patriot and Ivy leagues. La Salle, Boston University, Virginia Commonwealth and Duquesne were also among the strong contenders.
Moore is ticketed for frontcourt handyman status.
"Coach (Patrick) Chambers said he likes that I'm so versatile," he said. "It's not like I'm a stiff big guy. He says I can do the power stuff, but also face up and blow by guys."
Said Fenerty: "I really feel good for Julian. He has worked his butt off to make this happen."
