March 10, 2019 marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising, and Tibetans are still fighting for freedom from direct Chinese control. In honor of their ancestors and relatives who trekked across Tibet, seven men set out on-foot from Philadelphia's Independence Hall to New York City's United Nations Headquarters where they arrived Saturday, March 9, 2019. Members of the Tibetan community gathered in protest in both locations to support the freedom fighters and to raise awareness for their families in Tibet who are still under Chinese control.

Six Tibetans, who call themselves freedom fighters, started walking from Philadelphia to New York City Sunday March 3, 2019. They aimed to raise awareness for their relatives in Tibet, who have been under China's rule since 1949. The men, who currently live in various parts of the Northeast U.S. and Canada, aimed to travel 15 miles per day during daylight hours, which was their way to honor their ancestors who made a pilgrimage across Tibet 60 years ago.
