Sixers respond to President Donald Trump’s callout of LeBron James
Sixers head coach Nick Nurse and forward LeBron James respond to President Donald Trump's call-out of James during Thursday night's game.

The Sixers’ home-opening win was “everything” LeBron James “dreamed of — and more,” the forward said after the 114-106 win over the Cavaliers on Thursday.
However, the win came after criticism thrown at James from President Donald Trump. During the national anthem on Tuesday, James could be seen extending his arms and rotating his shoulders in a swinging motion that some online thought was a golf swing.
“While listening to our national anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!” Trump wrote. “ … LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!”
It was not the first time James was captured allegedly practicing his golf swing during the anthem, including last Christmas in a post that was shared by ESPN. However, it appears James is just stretching, as in the video posted by Trump, James’ swinging stretch aligns with a left-handed golf swing. James is right-handed and would be positioned the opposite way if practicing a golf swing.
Philly R&B legends Boyz II Men performed the national anthem Thursday night.
James, who would go on that night to score 17 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, said, “It must be a slow news day at the office,” in response to Trump’s post.
Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said comments like Trump’s go “right in with all the other outside noise we’ve already had,” he said.
“All I really care about is getting them to the practice floor, getting in the film room, getting them to the game floor. And the focus that they’ve had and the intent and all the stuff they’ve had has been excellent.”
James drew Trump’s attention earlier this year. On the day James signed with the Sixers, Trump said of him, “maybe he’s a racist,” when asked whether he preferred James or Michael Jordan. Trump has also been critical of other athletes’ behavior during the national anthem, most notably former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick in 2016.
