A South Jersey grandfather was biking home from work when he was killed in a hit-and-run on Route 73 this weekend
Md Maksudur Rahman, 71, enjoyed his regular bike rides to and from work at the 24-hour Harmony Diner, a place that had become his “second home” over the decade he worked there as a dishwasher.

Police in Voorhees are looking for two vehicles that they believe were involved in a fatal hit-and-run along Route 73 early Sunday morning.
Md Maksudur Rahman, 71, was found unresponsive near the 100 block of North Route 73, not far from the intersection with Cooper Road. Police were called to the scene around 1:17 a.m. Sunday after reports of a vehicle collision involving a cyclist, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Voorhees Police Department.
Rahman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators determined that two vehicles had struck Rahman and fled — a dark gray or black 2017 or 2020 Ford Fusion and a dark-colored midsize SUV, the prosecutor’s office said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made in the case and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
The cycling route along Route 73 was one that Rahman had taken routinely for more than a decade, his son, Mahmudur Rahman, said.
His father’s pedal-assist bike was equipped with both front and rear hazard lights for visibility, he said.
Originally from Bangladesh, Rahman immigrated to the United States more than a decade ago, his son said, stopping briefly in New York before settling with his wife in Berlin in 2014.
Mahmudur Rahman said his father was healthy and enjoyed his regular bike rides to and from work at the 24-hour Harmony Diner in Voorhees, a place that had become his “second home” over the decade he worked there as a dishwasher.
“He was the greatest person I ever met in my life, always a smile on his face,” said Serkhan Bagcivan, the diner’s owner.
“If you needed something, he’s there right away,” he said, adding that he was a “great, hardworking guy.”
In addition to his son, Rahman is survived by his wife, a daughter, and six grandchildren, Mahmudur Rahman said.
The Rahman family and local investigators are asking that any witnesses or anyone with information about the incident contact the police.
