Good morning, South Jersey.

With a little more than a week until the midterm election, Democratic U.S. Rep. Donald Norcoss compared Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew to Adolf Hitler at a get-out-the-vote rally in Westville.

And the last surviving structure from a 19th-century settlement is on the market for $455,000.

Plus, the Paulsboro man who is accused of killing his 9-year-old stepdaughter will remain in jail, and more news of the day.

During a Gloucester County Democratic Committee rally Saturday in Westville, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross got down on his knees in front of 200 people in the audience to mock South Jersey Republican U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew.

While on stage, Norcross went after Van Drew for his “undying support” of President Donald Trump after initially serving as a Democrat; his hair; and the style of a white handkerchief the politician used to wear in his jacket pockets.

“That haircut: If it was darker, that’s Hitler’s haircut. That tells you who he really is. And those things he used to wear in his pocket, those three things. … The Klan hats he used to wear there, remember that? This is the real Jeff Van Drew."

After The Inquirer reached out, Norcross apologized to Van Drew and said his comments went “too far.”

The Inquirer’s Aliya Schneider has Van Drew’s response.

In related politics news: Van Drew and his challenger Cape May Mayor Zack Mullock faced off Thursday night in a tense debate at Stockton University in Galloway on a variety of issues including data centers and the war in Iran.

The Glendale Methodist Episcopal Church in Voorhees is up for sale.

Built in 1855, it’s the only building left from Glendale, a settlement from the 19th century. It’s also one of the oldest standing public school buildings in Camden County because of its school. Today, it sits inside the township’s borders.

It once hosted Walt Whitman while he was recovering from a paralytic stroke and spending his days writing poetry. It was also a location for abolitionist meetings before the Civil War.

Although there are some protections since the church is on national and state historic registers, they don’t apply to private buyers. A preservation architect worries that the next owner may not want to sustain its historic features.

Reporter Sarah Nicell shares the many phases of the storied church.
