KINGSTON, R.I. -- Ishmael Leggett’s tie-breaking layup with 23 seconds left doused the Explorers’ upset hopes as Rhode Island beat La Salle, 56-54.

La Salle (6-9, 1-4 A-10) stunned the Rams (12-4, 3-1) by taking a 35-27 halftime lead and took a one-point lead into the game’s final two minutes.

The Explorers had three shots to tie or go ahead after Leggett’s basket, but Clifton Moore, Christian Ray, and Jhamir Brickus each missed.

Moore finished with 10 points to lead La Salle, which had nine players score at least four points. Jack Clark just missed a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
