Johnson transferred to Temple before the 2024-25 season from Talladega College in Alabama, where she became the first All-American from a historically Black college or university. She joined the Owls after Talladega’s program shut down.

She wanted her floor routine to honor her HBCU background and also get the crowd involved. Spectators danced with her routine and she posted the videos on social media, leading to her appearing on ESPN’s Instagram pages.

Johnson earned first-team All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League in the vault and floor last year and was second-team all-tournament in the floor exercise this season.
